I had to step back quite a distance to get the whole tree in the photo. But, that does not give you a feel for how large this tree is. The next two photos help with that.

I wished that I had a diameter tape with me so that I could measure it. But I didn't so does anyone know? Or have any good guesses on what the diameter might be?

It really felt more like one of the large cedars I have seen, which is juniper's larger cousin. Truly a magnificent specimen, it looked healthy and happy. Barring any future fires it should still be here for a long time to come.

Wow! That is a huge and beautiful tree. Can't believe the size of that trunk. Hope to see in one day myself
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is...WOW! It's simply amazing to see trees of that height, girth and grace. Looks like it was a fabulous day for weather too.
ReplyDeleteI have a photo of a large juniper in western Oregon near Ashland,OR. It is over 8 feet in circumference around the smallest part of the trunk. I believe it may be the largest juniper (or one of the largest)in Oregon west of the Cascades. I will be glad to share the photo. It stands alone on a large barren hill. It is magnificent. ReplyDeleteJim, I would love to see that Juniper! I don't know who determined that this was the largest in Oregon, but it is on all the local maps as such.
ReplyDeleteWe were at this tree today --- measured over 18 feet around!!!!
