Winter Solstice - Moonset Over Fort Rock Cave

I was lucky enough to have good clear skies last night that allowed me to view the lunar eclipse.  That was fantastic enough.  This morning though,  I woke to a very sweet  pink sunrise.   And nestled within that beautiful vista was the setting moon.

For those of you that are unfamiliar, the Fort Rock Cave is where sagebrush sandals were unearthed that have been carbon dated to approximately 9,500 years ago.  I have a couple of older posts on this.  In this photo the cave is off to the left, just west of the more noticeable butte.  Just thought I would share what I felt to be a captured moment of time at an important site.  Enjoy!

  1. Dear Gail, such a beautiful, nearly eerie scenery.
The lovely pink sky with a benign moon-face peeping out, wonderful. Glad you shared this special moment. Gail, thank you so much for the delightful Christmas card. I wish you too a very happy Christmas.

  2. I like the contrast between warm pink and cold snow! It seems to glow with hope for spring.

Thank you for posting this. And merry Christmas to you! Jack
